and just to remind you... my reviews are short, sweet and to the point and they are full of bias. so here we go...

This is most definitely a "guy" movie. full of violence and Spartan testerone. what's even better... it's super stylized violence and Spartan testerone. if you've ever read the graphic novel that it's based on, it's very faithful to the look and feel of the Frank Miller comics.

this movie has a very "video game" feel to it. proving finally, that Hollywood can learn a lot about making movies from the gaming industry, instead of "Hollywood-izing" comics and games, and turning them into crap (aka... Resident Evil, Doom, Elektra, Daredevil... and every other crappy attempt).

there's not much of a story here, but i don't think that was the point. the point of the movie is for you to come out ready to cut heads off and spear people in slow motion fueled by movie magic adrenaline. 300 succeeds in that tenfold.

[rating:4/5] | this is definitely worth the price of admission.

  • Carolina Hurricanes. the 2006 Stanley Cup Champions. the first thing i said... "Who the heck are the Carolina Hurricanes?" last year, i said... "they have more typhoons, than hockey rinks in Tampa."
  • Dwayne Wade. is there anyone who can stop this guy?
  • Half Life 2. awesome game, great story. anti-climatic ending. especially after "investing" countless hours into it.
  • Threadless.com. i've bought a couple shirts already. can't wait 'til the next $10 sale.
  • Bought a USB phone to go with my current abuse of Skype. i heart technology.
  • I wonder how many YFC registered for this year's conference?
  • current music album ventures: "Chemical City" by Sam Roberts, "St. Elsewhere" by Gnarls Barkley, "How To Save A Life" by The Fray, "Stadium Arcadium" by The Red Hot Chili Peppers and "We Don't Need to Whisper" by Angels And Airwaves. all kick butt, in their own right.
  • What is real and authentic "Girl Power?"
  • Pixar movies are well thought out. Cars wasn't their best effort, yet it still got me a lil misty.
  • you really can't please everyone.
  • dang, it's summer!
  • i miss her.

i thoroughly enjoyed "Constantine." it paints a blunt and straight forward view of Heaven & Hell. other movies that delve into this subject, usually twist it or spin it to make it more "sensitive" for the non-believers in the audience, but director Francis Lawrence makes it very black & white, which in turn makes the story that much more interesting.
Good effects, jumpy moments, stylized action and an honest look at the eternal consequences of our choices, make for a late, great winter movie.

[rating:3/5]  |  worth paying the price of a matinee.

so Lent this year will begin with a bang. i think for those who are true believers in Christ, as well as those who are "luke-warm," will get a jolt of reality thanks to the Mel Gibson masterpiece. for followers of Christ, this will be more than an entertaining movie. it will truly be an experience. i know for myself, i'm gonna pray before in the theatre before it starts. because it takes a strong heart (and maybe a strong stomach) to watch the portrayal of someone you love so passionately be executed.

i'm not expecting this movie to change my life, but i do know that God will use this film to remind us of this simple love story that is Jesus Christ.
