nothing too deep or weird for this entry. just wanted to share some of the media adventures i've taken and media discoveries i've stumbled upon these past couple of weeks. sharing is caring. and if there's one thing we're good at here at butcheee.com, it's staring caring!
Everybody Loves Sydney
i'm about 5 seasons late, but i've finally taken the ALIAS dive. i'm only starting the 4th disk of the 1st season, and i must say, that i'm hooked! for all you hardcore fans out there aka all my friends, please don't ruin it for me by telling me what happens in any of the past seasons. i know the season 5 premiere is this coming thursday, so please don't mention anything to me about it. i just might hafta go SD-6 on you.

The Amazing Race: Family Edition
i don't watch TV all that often. although if i can, i always try to catch The Amazing Race. it's probably the most exciting and real reality show on TV now. this season, they've added the family dynamic. so instead of two people, it's teams of 4 relatives. i was able to catch the season premiere tonight... and it was pretty funny. case in point...
there was an African-American family competing. not really a big deal right? but the surname of the family was... get this... "Black." unfortunately they came last, and will not be advancing for more of the race. it's unfortunate becauase the white guy who hosts the show would always call them 'Black' family, and now he can't. i hope you understand that this is funny on so many levels.

The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri
to be honest, i wasn't too sure about this novel. i only picked it up because a good friend couldn't stop raving about it. it kinda sounded like a 'girly novel' (whatever that means). i haven't had a chance to really immerse myself into the book yet, because Sydney Bristow has been getting most of my attention lately. but i do like the descriptive and honest style of writing that the author has. the book seems promising. i guess it can't be so bad considering it's a Pulitzer Prize winner. i'll hafta keep you updated on this one.

Jack's Mannequin - Everything in Transit
this is probably the best stumbling upon i've stumbled on. it's heavy enough and lite enough for everyone. great and honest songwriting coupled with good ol' emo-related chorus'.
Kickin' Tracks: Mixtape, Holiday From Real, Bruised
[rating:4/5]
Switchfoot - Nothing Is Sound
yes you can download these songs... but if you don't buy the album, you're missing out on the dual disc fun. it contains a half-hour documentary about the recording of this album, which gives you that much more of an apprecation for this great CD.
Switchfoot has a bit of a darker and grittier tone on this album, which i like a lot. their songwriting has taken a big step forward. this album is full of lyrics that will resound in your head even after the melody it was delievered on fades away from your memory.
Kickin' Tracks: The Shadow Proves The Sunshine, Lonely Nation, Stars, The Blues
[rating:4/5]
Honourable Mention
i also stumbled upon this neat-o dorito music site called: lastfm.com. it's sort of a friendster but just with music. the site checks your musical tastes and as you listen to more music, it starts to introduce people to you who have the same musical tastes. you should sign up and save me as a friend. my account name is 'butcheee'
that's it folks! as you can notice, i haven't been able to catch a movie as of late. although i am anticipating this.
do you have any recommendations for books? movies? video games? shows? let me know... i'd like to see what holds your attention.
and on a total random note... i'm an APPLE believer now. oh you PC users, you don't know the peace i have in my heart.
KONICHIWA!
you know you spend too much time on the internet when...
i am guilty of all of this at a time or another. or all in one sitting. internet is the new tv. it's entertaining for the most part, and maybe educational. but it's time consuming. you know how in statistics they say you'll spend an "x" amount of years sleeping in your entire lifetime. i think we're gonna start to see "x" amount of years on the internet in our lifetimes.
as a resolution, i've cut down my internet time drastically, and i've started to do something i haven't done since grade 12 english...
enjoy a good book.
